Ultherapy PRIME: Non-Surgical Face Lifting

Ultherapy® Prime is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses microfocused ultrasound to lift and tighten the skin on smaller, delicate areas such as the under-chin, jawline, and brows. Designed specifically for early signs of ageing, it stimulates your body’s natural collagen production for a firmer, more youthful appearance without surgery or downtime.

How does Ultherapy work?

Ultherapy or 美版超声刀 is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment designed to lift and tighten sagging skin, resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Unlike traditional facelifts or surgical procedures, Ulthera harnesses the power of focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin's layers. The target layer is the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) layer. When the ultrasound is directed in a focused beam, the particular depth of the SMAS, the SMAS tissue absorbs the ultrasound energy and heats up. The heat causes the collagen within the layer to contract, tightening the skin. The heat also stimulates further collagen production. This results in firmer, smoother skin with improved elasticity over time.

How is Ultherapy PRIME different?

Ultherapy PRIME is the next evolution of Ultherapy, and is built upon the legacy of more than 3 million treatments done in over 80 countries over the decades since its debut. All enhanced technology ensures more consistent outcomes, less variability, with equally great results.

What conditions can Ultherapy PRIME treat?

Ultherapy is highly effective in treating a range of common aesthetic concerns, including sagging skin on the face, neck, and décolletage, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. It can also target specific areas such as the brow, jawline, and chin for precise lifting and contouring. Ultherapy can also be done in the superficial skin to improve the quality of skin for people with enlarged pores and textural issues.

Who is this treatment for?

Ultherapy is suitable for individuals seeking a non-surgical solution to address mild to moderate skin laxity and ageing concerns. It is ideal for those who wish to rejuvenate their appearance without the downtime or risks associated with surgery.

What to expect?

The treatment session is estimated to last from 60 to 90 minutes. As the ultrasound energy heats up the layers of the skin, some patients report feeling a hot sensation or some discomfort. But your skin will be thoroughly numbed before the procedure, and along with some distraction, the procedure is very tolerable for most. The benefit of Ultherapy Prime is that the faster processing speed of the machine enables us to complete the treatment faster, resulting in less overall pain.

“工欲善其事,必先利其器.” is one of the most remembered Chinese idioms that I’ve consistently applied to my daily work as an aesthetics physician. As the saying goes, “For an artisan to perform well in his job, he must first sharpen his tools.” Likewise, with over a decade of working experience with Ultherapy as a trial & tested trusty ‘tool’ for my trade, I’m excited to kickstart my 20th year as a practising medical aesthetician with the new, improved version of it. Ultherapy PRIME will certainly be a prized addition for me and my patients, with natural-looking results for graceful ageing, lifting skin and spirits, one face at a time.

FAQs

How long will it take to see results?

While some patients may notice immediate tightening and lifting effects following Ultherapy treatment, the full results typically develop gradually over the next 2 to 3 months as new collagen fibres form and mature. Patients can expect to see continued improvements in skin firmness and elasticity over time.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients achieve optimal results with just one Ultherapy treatment session. However, depending on individual skin laxity and desired outcomes, some patients may benefit from additional treatment sessions spaced several months apart to further enhance results. This treatment is usually repeated on a yearly basis for maintenance of a youthful look.

Complementary treatments to consider pairing this with?

Other energy-based devices may be combined with this treatment to optimise non-invasive skin firming and lifting. Injectables, such as botulinum toxins, dermal fillers and biostimulators, may be used as complementary treatments as well to further personalise and enhance one's natural features for a full-face rejuvenation.

Recommended Post-Treatment care

Following the Ultherapy treatment, patients may experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area, which typically resolves within a few days. Regular sun protection should be followed after treatment. Patients can typically resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.

Contra-indication or known risks

Common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, numbness, or a tingling sensation. While uncommon side effects include nerve injury, burns, or scarring. It is important to note that the vast majority of patients experience minimal side effects or complications with Ultherapy, and any adverse effects are typically mild and transient. However, as with any medical procedure, there are inherent risks involved, and it is essential to discuss these risks with your healthcare provider before undergoing treatment.
