The PicoSure is an FDA-approved picosecond laser that delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to treat a variety of skin concerns with minimal heat and downtime. How does PicoSure Laser work?
The Cynosure PicoSure Laser system is the world’s first picosecond laser to receive FDA approval for the removal of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions. Picosecond lasers are able to fire laser beams with very short pulse durations in the picosecond (trillionth of a second) duration. It is an improved technology from traditional Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers, which fire laser beams in the nanosecond (billionth of a second) duration.
The ultra-short bursts provide more efficient pigment-clearing prowess on targeted tissues while causing lesser thermal damage to surrounding normal ones, reducing the risk of adverse effects such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or PIH. With the Zoom lens hand-piece, there is good clearance of surface blemishes of epidermal lesions such as freckles (ephelides) and sun spots (solar lentigines). The system is also able to tackle more challenging cases of hyperpigmentation, such as melasma, as it addresses both the epidermal and dermal components of mixed-type lesions with finesse.

What to expect?

While patients may see visible results 1 to 2 weeks after their first treatment, some treatments may require multiple treatment sessions over weeks or months to see significant improvement.

It is important to avoid unnecessary sun exposure and be adequately protected with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 50 or more to protect your skin post-procedure. When outdoors under direct sunlight, the use of sunglasses, an umbrella or a wide-brimmed hat should be considered for added protection.
Our doctors will review and assess your usual skin care regimen. Following treatment, harsh ingredients such as retinol and acidic products such as AHAs and BHAs, commonly found in many anti-ageing products, should be laid off for at least a week. Your skin may feel drier than usual. Keep it well hydrated at all times with a good moisturiser. If you are using products to tone down the redness, opt for non-comedogenic mineral makeup, which will allow your skin to breathe and prevent pores from clogging during the healing phase.
