What is PDRN Skin Booster?

Salmon is widely considered one of the most nutritious foods on the planet, and is credited with everything from longevity claims to reducing the risk of heart attacks and cancer. Not only does salmon possess one of the highest omega-3 contents, but it is also packed with a variety of amino acids, vitamins and minerals as well. For beauty and health lovers, the potential of this fish has taken the form of pills, drinks and topical creams. Scientific studies done have even shown that just a small percentage of salmon DNA cream rubbed onto the skin will improve its elasticity over time. Now, with PDRN Skin Booster, this essence can be injected directly into the skin.

PDRN Skin Booster hails from South Korea and is a well-tested treatment for aging and tired skin. It is currently one of the most sought after anti-aging treatment. The active ingredient is polynucleotides (PN), which are fragments of DNA derived from germ cells of wild-caught salmon. The PN supplements the action of our innate source of PN, increasing the metabolic activity of cells in the skin called fibroblasts to start producing collagen again. There are 4 kinds of injectable PDRN Skin Booster: Healer, S, I and HB Plus.

Healer [the original, highest concentration of PN]

Healer is the first of the PDRN Skin Booster range and has been in the Korean market for over 10 years, with over 10 million syringes administered. It contains the highest concentration of PN for the best regenerative effect. It is medium in viscosity as compared to I and S, and is considered the "all-rounder" of the PDRN Skin Booster range.

S [for scars]

The composition of S makes it more viscous and gel-like compared to Healer, and it acts partially like a dermal filler to fill up sunken scars. At the same time, S boasts the same rejuvenating capabilities as Healer, inducing collagen production at the dermis to heal and improve the appearance of scars. S microinjections lead to improvement of most types of acne scarring such as box scars, rolling scars, and icepick scars. An exceedingly rich source of polynucleotides, which are the basic building blocks of our very own DNA, PDRN Skin Booster “activates” the healing properties of skin by providing these building blocks for DNA synthesis. Either as a standalone treatment or best combined with subcision and/or resurfacing lasers for optimal outcome, S gives gratifying results with very manageable downtime.

I [for ageing eyes]

While S is more viscous, I is less viscous in texture compared to Healer, specifically formulated for the delicate skin around the eyes without causing lumpiness and prolonged downtime. I greatly improves the elasticity of undereye skin, effectively reduces fine lines, Crow’s feet and dark eye circles after a recommended primary course of three treatment sessions done at monthly intervals.

HB Plus [for best regeneration and hydration]

HB Plus pairs PN for regeneration with hyaluronic acid for hydration, giving the PDRN Skin Booster line it's best hydrating effect while preserving its skin repair benefits. It is suitable for the whole face, including around the eye area and pores. It can soften fine lines, reduce dark circles and eye bags, refine pore size, and improve elasticity. The formula includes lidocaine for a more comfortable injection. The product is placed intradermally and can be used alongside other injectables and energy-based devices.

Who is this treatment for?

After around 20 years of age, the ability to synthesise DNA in our body starts to fall. As aging progresses, even antioxidants and sunscreen will be insufficient to fully heal the skin due to insufficient stores of naturally occurring DNA. Acne marks stay for longer than welcome, pigmentation not seen in your 20s surfaces, fine lines start to creep all over the place, and wrinkles deepen to become permanently etched into the skin. Hence, it is vital to maintain the integrity of our skin’s DNA for overall skin health to delay or reverse the onslaught of these undesirable signs of skin aging.

Treatment duration, associated pain, and downtime.

The treatment session is estimated to last from 20 to 30 minutes. For some, it may be rather uncomfortable due to the multiple injection points. Numbing cream is applied prior to treatment for about 20 to 30 minutes to minimise any pain or discomfort. Multiple microinjections are then administered manually or via the injector gun by our expert doctors. With adequate numbing and distraction, most patients find the procedure tolerable.

For this treatment, we want to inject over a large area of the face, so post-treatment, you will be left with multiple small “insect-bite-like” swellings or welts over the treated areas. These bumps are normal and generally disappear spontaneously within 1 to 3 days without any further intervention.

The degree of such side effects will depend on how sensitive a person’s skin is, the delivery method employed, and the skill, expertise and experience of the provider.
