What is PCL Biostimulator?

PCL Biostimulator (少女针) is a unique filler that is loved by many. It is a dual-action filler that works to treat the underlying cause of ageing - loss of our body’s natural collagen. It contains carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), the carrier gel that gives PCL Biostimulator an immediate lifting effect, just like a traditional HA filler. CMC is naturally broken down in the body in 2 to 3 months. As the CMC breaks down, the effect of PCL's stimulation of collagen production takes over.
Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a bioresorbable medical polymer that stimulates collagen production by the body over the next 3 to 6 months. This means PCL Biostimulator will steadily rebuild and reshape the facial contours to restore the youthful infrastructure of the skin over time. This is unlike traditional hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers, which simply degrade over time after injection.

PCL Biostimulator is available in two options: S and M, with results lasting for 18 months and 2 years, respectively. This is typically longer than the longevity of most HA-based fillers, which last around 9 to 12 months on average. It is suitable for patients who are looking for a longer-lasting filler with its biostimulating/collagen inducing effects.
Treatment duration, associated pain, and downtime.
This treatment takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the areas treated. With numbing creams and adequate distraction, tiny amounts of PCL Biostimulator are injected into the skin using an ultrafine needle or cannula, and most patients report minimal pain, which is very tolerable.
Most side effects are mild, and there may be some bruising, swelling and tenderness after the procedure, but these usually self-resolve in a few days. You will be able to return to most activities immediately after, as there is no downtime.

PCL Biostimulator is composed of unique Polycaprolactone (PCL) microspheres and Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) carrier gel, all naturally broken down by the body into carbon dioxide and water and then eliminated without leaving any traces in your body.
Other injectables like Botulinum Toxin and Skin Boosters, or other energy-based devices, are safe to do with PCL Biostimulator. They may be spread apart or done in the same sitting. Your doctor will advise as appropriate.
For 24 hours, avoid excessive sun exposure, extreme temperatures and swimming. Avoid alcohol consumption for 72 hours. Keep your face clean. Avoid sleeping face down for the same night as the injection. If there is bruising and swelling, topical ice packs may be applied.
- Severe allergies manifested by a history of anaphylaxis, or history or presence of multiple severe allergies
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the components
- Acute or chronic skin disease (infection or inflammation)
- Active sepsis or infection, active (or history of) autoimmune disease
- Known susceptibility to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring
- Current steroidal treatment (reduces neocollagenesis)
Risks
Soreness, swelling and redness may occur. Rarely, lumps or nodules may form after the injection. Just as with any filler, there is a very small risk of vascular occlusion if the filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel.
