PDO100 and PDO200 Collagen Liquid Threads

Over time, exposure to sunlight, oxidative stress, and daily wear lead to a decrease in the skin’s collagen and elastin, which are vital for maintaining a youthful appearance. However, there are different ways to combat or slow down this aging process. Among these methods, using PDO100 and PDO200 can help boost your body's natural collagen production, rejuvenating your skin from within.

Unlike regular hyaluronic acid (HA) skin boosters, PDO100 offers more than just intense hydration to rejuvenate dull and tired complexions. At the core of PDO100 is the FDA-approved active ingredient Poly-P-Dioxanone (PDO), a completely biodegradable agent used for over three decades in surgical sutures. In recent years, minimally invasive, non-surgical thread lift procedure with PDO threads has become highly sought after in the aesthetics community. This is primarily because PDO can prompt collagen regeneration in the skin. However, since thread lifting may not be the preferred first line of treatment for everyone, PDO100 now presents an alternative to harness the dermal benefits of threads in a relatively straightforward and hassle-free manner.

One distinctive feature of PDO100 is its smooth spherical micro-particles with added carboxy-methyl cellulose. This formulation enables PDO100 to revitalise the skin when administered via a series of micro-injections. In essence, it gives rise to an injectable, bioremodelling blend often referred to as ‘liquid threads’ within our clinic, earning it the endearing nickname of the liquid thread lifter.

It is seamlessly incorporated into the the skin, and is well tolerated to stimulate and support your body’s own collagen production. PDO100 features smaller particle size and is best administered as a superficial skin booster.

The more potent PDO200 is the preferred option for replenishing volume in facial areas that have experienced a loss of their natural youthful plumpness. These areas include deflated cheeks, temples and forehead, and it particularly addresses under eye hollowing. Treating under-eye concerns traditionally poses challenges, as conventional hyaluronic acid fillers may lead to undesired fullness or the development of eye bags due to excessive correction.

PDO 200 works to regenerate the body's own collagen and eliminates the issues associated with conventional fillers. Additionally, it can be applied to smile lines, neck creases, and aging skeletal hands..

Treatment Areas and Indications:

  • Under eye hollowing
  • Temple hollowing
  • Deflated cheeks
  • Forehead
  • Laugh lines (nasolabial and marionette lines)
  • Neck
  • Decolletege
  • Hands

A primary course of 3 treatments (either standalone PDO100 or PDO200 or even combined PDO100 and PDO200) done at monthly intervals is ideal to improve not just hydration, but also the tone and elasticity of treated skin.

How does the treatment procedure work?

Having been utilized globally for over 30 years in surgical procedures for suturing wounds and tissues, PDO has demonstrated its complete biodegradability and safety for human application. When administered through microinjections in carefully measured amounts across the entire face or in specific targeted regions, PDO100 naturally stimulates collagen and elastin production. This in turn boosts hydration and firmness of the skin while rejuvenating areas of sagging and diminishing signs of aging.

What sensations can be expected during the treatment?

You may encounter slight discomfort during the procedure. However, with the use of a
topical anaesthetic/numbing cream and the aid of the professional medical-grade Zimmer cooler, the procedure is generally very well tolerated by most. There can be pinprick marks with slightly raised bumps at the injection sites immediately post treatment, which typically subside after.

What can I expect Post-Procedure?

PDO100's formulation enables micro-bolus injection in a superficial layer without the risk of lumps, contour irregularities, or tissue bulking, eliminating the need for post-injection massage.

You may experience mild discomfort, swelling, or redness, which typically subsides within a few days. Occasionally, there might be minor bruising that can be concealed with makeup the following day. Most individuals can resume their regular social activities immediately.

We recommend refraining from strenuous physical activity, hot saunas/steam baths, and alcohol consumption for the first 24 hours after the treatment.

What kind of results can I expect?

PDO100 is a bio-remodelling skin booster that not just hydrates, but improves general skin quality for healthier and more youthful looking complexions. By boosting your skin’s own innate source of collagen, PDO100 leads to smoother texture, bounce, plumpness and skin elasticity. When paired with PDO200, it remodels skin and gives rise to natural yet noticeable improvements in facial contour. All this is achieved with a fairly straightforward and safe treatment that does not disrupt one’s daily routine.

You may observe a reduction, or even complete disappearance of fine lines depending on your true skin age. Even for those with more severe skin wrinkling, the textural improvement would not go unnoticed.

How long will do results last?

The duration of the resulst typically varies based on factors such as skin condition, diet, lifestyle, age, and genetics. Generally, following a primary course of 3 sessions spaced a month apart, each involving 1 vial of PDO100 skin booster treatment, results can last between 9 to 12 months. Subsequently, booster sessions can be scheduled every 3 to 6 months for ongoing maintenance or to achieve additional facial rejuvenation goals, as desired. It's essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle, use effective sunscreen, and adhere to a skincare regimen to support youthful appearance and overall well-being.

Who is a good candidate?

It is suitable for all ages, men and women of all skin types especially for those over the age of 30 who want to rejuvenate tired, dull and lacklustre skin. This treatment increases firmness and skin elasticity to give fine lines, wrinkles and sagginess the chop without “running the risk of an over-filled pillow face”.

PDO200 in particular addresses periorbital or undereye signs of aging with finesse, treating underage hollowing and dark eye circles effectively without the risk of prolonged swelling, often a dreaded side effect of traditional hyaluronic acid or HA fillers when used in these areas.

Can it be used on other parts of my body?

PDO100 and PDO200 are most commonly used for the face but they can also be effectively applied to help revitalise the neck, décolletage, and hands. The neck especially is an oft-neglected body part that is becoming an increasing popular area to treat with a bio-remodelling substance due to its ability to help reduce crepe-like skin and sagginess for a firmer, and more youthful looking appearance.
