How does Botulinum Toxin V-Dermalift work?
It is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When inserted in small, controlled doses into specific facial muscles, it blocks nerve signals, temporarily paralysing the muscles and preventing them from contracting. This results in a smoother appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly those caused by repetitive facial movements. However, there is another way to do this as well. We can inject a more diluted version intradermally, i.e very superficially. This technique was pioneered by Dr Lee Young Seob, a renowned Plastic Surgeon from South Korea. The injection points are different from the usual places we traditionally inject Botulinum Toxin. When injected very superficially, the toxin exerts its effect on the skin (not the muscle), causing the skin cells to secrete more collagen and elastin, fibroblasts to contract, thus tightening the skin and producing a lifting effect.

What to expect?
Approximately 15 minutes of treatment. With numbing cream and adequate distraction, most patients just feel a small prick with the injections and find it very tolerable. There is no downtime associated with Botulinum Toxin injections. There may potentially be some bruising at the injection site or small bumps on the skin from the volume of Botulinum toxin as they are injected superficially. For most patients, these self-resolve in a few hours or days.

While Botulinum Toxin is generally safe, some potential risks and side effects may include temporary bruising, swelling, redness, or headache. Rare complications such as eyelid drooping, asymmetry, or allergic reactions may occur but are exceedingly uncommon.
