Who We Are
Our Mission
In Nordic mythology, Freia was the goddess of love and beauty. Freia Medical is a one-stop aesthetic clinic with special focus on hair restoration and minimally invasive aesthetic treatments for the face and body.
Freia Medical was founded in 2006 with one simple philosophy: Focus on the patient. That has been the central theme to all we do, to the point of obsession.
Located in the world famous shopping belt of Orchard road, we designed our clinic to be comfortable, stylish and luxurious for our patients. Our staff are professional, trained in the highest standards of aesthetics healthcare and strive to provide the best possible outcome for the patient every time. Every encounter is warm, welcoming and reassuring.
We use only scientifically-proven, safe and effective technology. We continually invest and stay updated with the very best that medical technology has to offer. All our procedures are backed by science, and have the required US FDA and Singapore HSA approvals.
It is no surprise therefore, that we are known to constantly renew our skills and equipment to ensure that our services are in line with international best practices.
The best things in life are Freia.

One of Dr. Ma’s deepest passions is in the procedure of hair restoration by hair transplantation. He recalls first learning of the concept of hair transplantation back in 2006 in Europe.
Very few doctors were aware of this procedure. He was determined to bring this technology and skill back home to Singapore and has not looked back ever since. He has gone on to master the strip (FUT) and the more popular scarless follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique.
Over the years, he has honed his skills and built up a well-trained in-house team of hair restoration staff. We are proud to serve clients regionally and internationally.
He is very proud to introduce the ARTAS Robotic Hair transplant technology in 2013, which has refined his technique yet again. In 2015, he introduced scalp micro-pigmentation (SMP) to Singapore and the region.
Dr. Harold Ma has been regularly featured and interviewed on national radio and television shows, educating viewers and listeners on hair restoration and other aesthetic procedures.

He is often quoted on national english and chinese newspapers (The Straits Times, Shin Ming Daily, Lian He Zao Bao Chinese paper, Barita Harian Malay paper, etc). There is a saying: Think Hair, Think Dr. Harold
If there is one word to sum up Dr. Ma and his practice, it would be obsession. He is fully consumed with the desire to bring out the very best in his patients, every time. He believes that less, is sometimes more and applies this to his treatment planning for patients so that they need a minimum of treatment to get the best results. He demands excellence in his and his team’s work.
Never satisfied with the status quo, Dr. Ma is constantly seeking ways to further refine his techniques and results. As such, he travels the globe constantly, meeting with his peers in an exchange of ideas and know-how, giving talks and chairing regional and local conferences (Scientific Committee Co-chair person of the 2013 Malaysian-Singapore Conference of Aesthetic Medicine). His patients are the ones that gain the most from this spirit of tireless learning and sharing. He is an executive committee member of the Society of Aesthetic Medicine, which regularly holds training workshops, consensus meetings and formulates guidelines for its aesthetic doctor members.
Dr. Ma has been featured regularly in national television, radio and newspaper interviews, including Channel 5, 93.8FM, 95.8FM, The Straits Times national daily, Chinese paper Lian He Zao Bao, Shin Ming Daily, My Paper, and magazines including Haarper’s Bazaar, Tatler, Silverline, Nu You, etc for his insights into issues relating to hair restoration, aging gracefully, maintaining a youthful physique and introducing the latest beauty technology to his readers. He is often invited to give talks on his experience and opinion on matters related to aesthetics and beauty. These include La Mer, Estee Lauder, Ezyhealth Forums, etc. He is featured as far away as the Times of London.

Starting from January 2017, Dr Ma is honoured to be a Clinical Investigator collaborating with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) on hair biology.
Through this collaboration, we are poised to unlock the final mysteries of hair loss and hopefully put Singapore on the map for hair loss research. The ultimate goal is to be able to help patients suffering from hair loss, to reverse this common but often frustrating condition for both men and women.
True to his belief of maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle, Dr Ma continues to be an avid sportsman, having been a part of the National Windsurfing Team from 1998-2000.

Dr. Joanna Chan
Dr. Joanna enjoys working with her hands and hopes to use her talents, knowledge and skills to help her patients in their journey of discovering beauty, whatever this may be for them. Some of the concerns she has special interests in include skincare goals, such as achieving luminous skin with the “glow”, and body goals, such as medical weight management and body contouring.
She likens her work to lapidary - the art and craft of making each gem shine; discovering beauty in every individual means she believes everyone should be, and feel, beautiful. Defining what this means for each patient and designing an individualised treatment plan is something she enjoys as this makes each patient encounter unique.
Her calm and genuine personality shines through at work and she regards this as one of her strengths. In her practice, the aesthetic doctor is firstly, a medical doctor. This means she takes pride in practicing aesthetics with a broader view beyond treatment protocols, devices and injections, and is often interested in discussing other aspects of health, such as preventive medicine and emotional wellness, with her patients.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Joanna hopes to tap on her medical background to increase awareness of palliative care in Singapore. She hopes that there can be beauty in both living, and leaving, well. Or perhaps you may find her at the dance studio, her happy place outside of work, practising her lines and pointed toes.
