Aging Eyes

Your eyes aren’t just a window to the soul, they can also be a tell-tale sign of aging! To begin with, the skin around your eyes is incredibly thin and can easily be damaged by any number of things including habitual rubbing, constant tugging while applying eye makeup, lack of moisture, one too many sleepless nights, and most commonly the natural loss of collagen with age. While I believe that age is just a number, I do want my eyes to reflect my enthusiasm and spirit, not the number of candles on my birthday cake!

Get ahead with Moistur-Eyes

Supermodel Kendall Jenner is not taking her youth for granted when it comes to skincare, those alluring eyes included. Well known in the industry for her superb, no filter collection of IG uploads, one of Kendall Jenner’s top beauty mantra to live by is “Never touch your face, never pick your face and wear eye cream”. Caring for the skin around your eyes is a delicate process as it is thinner and more sensitive compared to the rest of the face. It tends to be the first place to show signs of aging, therefore it’s never too early or too late to start using suitable eye-care products to slow down or reverse peri-orbital aging.

Lighten up those darned circles

Unless you are Wednesday Addams or Kungfu Panda Po, no one is going to look good with dark eye circles. Dark circles tend to add years to one’s actual age, making your eyes appear smaller, tired and sickly looking. Our undereyes are riddled with a web of tiny capillaries which can become leaky. As red blood cells from these capillaries seep into the surrounding skin, a dark discoloration is formed when the haemoglobin in them are being broken down. With this in mind, medical aesthetics treatments based on these scientific findings are giving dark eye circles a one way ticket to obscurity.

Rejuran I, similar to Rejuran Healer is an injectable polynucleotide (PN) skin booster consisting of fragments of DNA derived from germ cells of salmon which teaches aging skin cells to behave in a youthful manner. Touted as possibly the most advanced anti-wrinkle, anti-sag and skin brightening treatment, Rejuran repairs skin cells and facilitates collagen growth in a nutshell. The difference is that Rejuran I is less viscous in texture than Rejuran Healer, therefore, it can be safely used for the delicate skin around your eyes without causing lumpiness. Rejuran I greatly improves the elasticity of the skin and thus effectively diminishes dark eye circles, fine lines and wrinkles.

Hollows no more

Sunken eyes also go by other names such as “tear trough hollows” or “under-eye hollows". Commonly a result of aging, most people will begin to notice sunken eyes by their late 30s and early 40s or when there’s dramatic weight loss over a short period of time. As we aged, we lose fat and bone density around our bodies including our faces. There is also a decline in the supporting structures that hold everything together, diminishing collagen stores with thinning of the overlying undereye skin, giving rise to undesirable undereye hollowing.

Dermal Facial Fillers made of naturally occuring hyaluronic acid can be safely used to correct undereye hollowing to improve upon its appearance. Due to the thin skin of this region, very soft fillers should be chosen to avoid lumps. More severe undereye hollows may require deeper filler placement if a “tenting” effect is desired, in which case, a choice of slightly harder fillers would be appropriate in these cases. Gratifying results are achievable in the correct hands, but it takes a fair amount of skill, patience and experience to treat this delicate area satisfactory, making the choice of physician of utmost importance.

When bedroom eyes become a tad too heavy

They might be immortalized by a song no doubt, but even Bette Davis's eyes can’t escape the ravage of Time. Very often, the upper eyelid skin droops down with age, and bedroom eyes are no longer sexy when they are a tad too heavy! The levator muscle is responsible for lifting the eyelid and as you aged, that muscle can stretch and, as a result, cause the eyelid to fall. Coupled with the lost in elasticity of the surrounding skin around the eyes, you’ll be cursed by a tired looking droopy gaze 24/7. Some are worse off than others due to hereditary factors, excessive sun exposure or smoking. However, if you develop droopy eyes suddenly or over a short period of time, it’s probably wise to seek a doctor’s opinion. Known medical conditions such as stroke, thyroid disease and myasthenia gravis, a nerve disorder can present as unilateral or bilateral ptosis, the fancy name for droopy eyelids.

Neogen Plasma Eyelift engages cutting edge nitrogen plasma technology to tighten and lift the eyelids and undereye area. At completely customizable settings, it delivers precise, controlled pulses of energy which creates uniform tissue heating at a depth which stimulates the remodelling and regeneration of collagen. One of the key selling features of NeoGen is that it’s entirely safe to use around the eye area which is often known to be tricky to treat effectively. It offers all round periorbital rejuvenation without any risk to the eye, and is best done in a series of 4 to 6 sessions at 4 to 6 weekly intervals. NeoGen does not cause vaporization or charring of the skin at the time of treatment, and as the treated skin’s surface is not breached and remains intact, it allows patients to return to their routine activities of daily living with minimal disruption.
