The eyes are the first contact that one human normally makes with another. Hence, the aesethetic appearance of our eyes cannot be over-emphasized if we want to make an impression. The eye shape and appearance is critically determined by the upper eyelid. People without an upper eyelid crease are described to have a single eyelid. It is an interesting and time-honoured phenomenon that a double eyelid crease is deemed to be more attractive. Studies have shown that people with a double eyelid crease are perceived to be more alert, intelligent and attractive.
For this reason, many have resorted to multiple ways in order to attain the highly desirable double-eyelid crease. These include using tape, glue, etc but these are at best temporary solutions. The moment the tape or glue wears off, they are back to square one. Also, we have often heard many lamenting how laborious and time-consuming it is, having to apply the tape or glue daily.
To avoid such issues, you may like to consider the very popular scar-less technique that is permanent, safe and suitable for most eye types and shapes. This is known in the medical circle as the double suture technique (DST). This particular technique was invented by a prominent plastic surgeon from Japan, Dr Akihira Minami. Using a very fine and inert thread, which is expertly inserted at the optimal level on the upper eyelid, a permanent crease lasting easily 5 to 10 years is created. The 1mm opening in the eyelid heals very well, often inconspicuously, within a few weeks. Swelling and bruising are also reported to be minimal, with some patients pleasantly surprised to find that they are able to return to work in a matter of 3 days. This is significant, as the previous cutting method would require a down-time of at least 3 to 4 weeks, highly unacceptable in today’s fast-paced, demanding world.
There are minimal risks to this procedure, such as infection and slight asymmetry. The doctor has to carefully assess the suitability of the patient for DST based on his/her eye and face shape, skin laxity and expectations. Failing which, in less than experienced hands of doctors who cannot appreciate the finer points in creating a harmonious double eyelid, the results can be disappointing and frustrating. In the right candidates, the success rate can be as close to 99%*.
